One of the fundamental building blocks of excellent dental care is keeping your teeth and gums clean. Good hygiene and a clean mouth can help you avoid a long list of uncomfortable and problematic disorders and diseases, such as tooth decay and periodontal disease. Fortunately, to assist you in maintaining exceptional oral health, we offer dental cleanings to all of our patients. If you feel committed to keeping your smile healthy but you have some questions about cleanings, we ask that you look over the following Q&A session. By uncovering the important details, you may feel more confident and certain when it comes to scheduling consistent care.
Question: Who should visit you for a routine dental cleaning?
Answer: Everyone should visit us for routine dental cleanings – even children. It is important that you maintain consistent preventive care. During your dental cleanings, we will remove the plaque from your teeth that you cannot address on your own.
Question: How often should I schedule a cleaning?
Answer: We suggest that our patients visit us once every six months. Seeing you twice a year for cleanings (which we typically provide in conjunction with a dental checkup) helps you keep your smile clean and healthy.
Question: What if I have gum disease?
Answer: If you are suffering from gum disease, we may suggest a different set of guidelines for you. We may ask that you visit us more frequently for dental cleanings so we can keep a close watch on your oral health and ensure your teeth and gums remain clean. In addition, you will likely require a deep cleaning rather than a routine dental cleaning. Deep cleanings remove the hardened plaque that has led to the inflammation and potential infection resulting from gum disease. This is usually the first step in treating periodontal concerns.
