Are Porcelain Veneers in Your Future?

Are Porcelain Veneers in your FutureAre you daydreaming about a more beautiful smile? Do you sometimes look in the mirror and imagine a smile with teeth that line up attractively and match one another? Porcelain veneers can address cosmetic issues of tooth size, spacing and color. Don’t think that dental veneers are only for actors and models. People in all walks of life have taken advantage of the bright smile porcelain veneers provide. Veneers may be the cosmetic solution that makes you truly happy with your smile.

How Porcelain Veneers Adjust Tooth Size, Shape and Color

When you come see us for a consultation, we will take the time needed to learn about your idea of a beautiful smile. With those thoughts in mind, we order the veneers from a lab. We will specify how each veneer will be sized, if needed to close a gap or lengthen or reshape a tooth. We will use a shade guide to specify a color that will add brightness without looking unnatural. One of the particular advantages of porcelain veneers is the natural, light relective property of porcelain, which closely mimics that of tooth enamel.

The Process of Porcelain Veneers

While your veneers are being crafted, we will prepare the teeth that are receiving them. After numbing the area to make sure you are comfortable, we will remove a very thin layer of enamel from the front and sides of each tooth. This allows the veneer to fit snugly, and extend very slightly under the gum line. At a second appointment, usually 1-2 weeks later, the finished porcelain veneers will be placed on each tooth, in case minor in-office adjustments are needed. The veneers are then bonded permanently in place, and you will head home with a new smile.

Porcelain veneers are durable and should last for many years. Generally, you can give them the same care as your natural teeth. Foods that stain natural teeth are also hard on porcelain veneers. Continue to see us for regular checkups and cleanings and you and your veneers will have a happy future together.
