Start The New Year With Brighter Teeth

Start The New Year With Brighter TeethSome people make resolutions to get to the gym more, while some people vow to procrastinate less. If you resolved to take better care of your smile, a whitening treatment may be a good way to kick off the year. Whitening your smile can be a great way to get brighter teeth, which can knock years off your appearance while giving you a boost of confidence. Professional whitening treatments can get fast and significant results all while under the supervision of your dentist. You have the option of treatments done in the office or treatments that can be taken home.

In-Office Treatment

Philips Zoom!® is a very popular brand of teeth whitening treatment. For an in-office treatment, your smile can get up to eight shades lighter in a 45-minute session. If you have a big event to attend or a short timeline, an in-office treatment may be your best option. First, your dentist will apply a peroxide-based whitening gel directly to your teeth. The gel will then be activated with a specially designed blue light, which will help the gel to penetrate the surface of your teeth to break up set-in stains. This will take about 15 minutes before the gel is removed. Your dentist will repeat this process for a total of three applications.

Take-Home Option

If you have a longer timeline and a smaller budget, a take-home treatment may be a better option for your smile. The results are comparable to the in-office treatment though it typically takes about two weeks to seem them with the take-home treatment. First, your dentist will create custom mouth trays, which will fit snugly to the curves of your teeth. A custom tray allows for the gel to better penetrate your smile. For approximately 30 minutes a day, you will wear the gel-filled trays in the comfort of your own home.
