Few things can affect your appearance and self-confidence like dental discoloration. Stains often result from certain foods, smoking, age, or environmental factors. Therefore, you may struggle with discoloration, even if you have outstanding dental hygiene. Fortunately, at 7 Day Dental, we offer highly effective teeth whitening treatment. Both in-office and at-home methods are available, and Dr. Jing or one of his associates will help you select the right option for your budget and schedule.

In-Office Whitening

Philips Zoom!® is one of the most popular brands of teeth whitening treatment, and the in-office method is especially well regarded, thanks to its near-instant results. To perform this treatment, your cosmetic dentist will apply peroxide-based whitening gel to your teeth. Then, he or she will activate the gel with a specially designed blue light. Oxygen molecules from the gel will penetrate the surface of your teeth to actually break apart the bonds that hold stains together. After the gel has been on your teeth for about 15 minutes, the dentist will remove it and reapply another layer. Typically, he or she will do this three times, and after one 45-minute session, your smile could be up to eight shades lighter.

At-Home Whitening

At-home teeth whitening offers comparable results to in-office care, although it will take longer to see the final effects. To perform this treatment, we will provide you with a set of custom-made whitening trays, which will fit comfortably, yet firmly, around your teeth. After filling the trays with whitening gel, you will wear them for approximately 30 minutes a day, typically for about 2 weeks. For your convenience and to fit with your busy schedule, overnight options are also available. After the full course of treatment, you will typically enjoy comparable results to in-office care.

Choosing the Right Method for You

Because both in-office and at-home treatments provide similar results, the type you choose will be based on other factors, including:

  • Schedule: If you have a big upcoming event, you may prefer the immediate results provided by office treatment. On the other hand, the home-based method allows you to whiten your teeth when and where it is convenient for you.
  • Budget: At-home treatment may be a more economical choice if you are watching your finances.
  • Dental sensitivity: If you have sensitive teeth or gums, dentist-supervised office treatment may be a better option for you.
  • Treatment preferences: Like many patients, you may simply prefer having full dentist supervision during your treatment. If so, you may want to consider office-based whitening.

Dr. Jing or one of our other associates will be happy to explain your options further and help you select the right type of whitening for you.
